Hypnotherapy for panic attacks and phobias

Hypnotherapy may work well for you in dealing with panic attacks and phobias. Common phobias include fear of spiders or cockroaches and other insects, sometimes birds, dogs or snakes, fear of heights, dentists, having blood pressure taken, needles and even vomiting phobia (emetophobia). I have worked with all of these and more.

How we work with hypnotherapy for phobias and panic attacks

I usually find with strong phobias and panic attacks that it is better to reduce the levels of anxiety and frequency of the uncomfortable episodes before going into the causes of the issue and trying do deal with them, so we will probably use a variety of techniques if you are coming for these conditions.

Different fears

If you’re interested in working with fear of flying through hypnotherapy, it has its own tab under ‘Fear of flying’. Social anxiety is a little different in origin, and is often related to self-confidence and self-esteem, as is approach anxiety. Blushing sometimes accompanies social anxiety or social phobia and is dealt with on the self-confidence page.

How stress works

Being stressed is a physical reaction as much as an emotional one. Stress is everywhere in our lives these days. You cannot change that, but you can change your reaction to it.

Your adrenal response was designed to react to short-term danger and then switch off again, but the problem is that these days we have so many triggers that the switch seems to be permanently on. If, like many people these days, you’re constantly surrounded by things which stress you, then having the ability to switch off that response via hypnotherapy or self-hypnosis will be a great help in dealing with stress.

How hypnotherapy can help with stress

What research has found over the years is that it is not the stress itself that is the issue, but your perception of stress. Often this can stem from a variety of sources: work (or even the lack of it), broken or difficult relationships, family issues, financial issues.

Sometimes a stressful situation is difficult to change, at least  in the short term, but hypnotherapy can still be effective in changing your perception of your situation. When that happens, not only do you feel better in general, but as a result you are better able to cope and will feel more motivated to take action to help the situation change. If you would like to understand more about how hypnotherapy may be able to help you deal more effectively with stress, just get in touch and ask me.
