The importance of sleep

It is very important for you to sleep well and for a reasonable length of time, as that is when your body and mind repair and restore themselves. Lack of sleep makes everything more difficult, as I’m sure you know, which is presumably why you’re reading this. It can even lead to weight gain.

Different types of sleep problem

Difficulty falling asleep is usually due to anxiety and a racing mind, perhaps caused by problems of the day, or thinking about work, or in some cases simply linked to anxiety in general. Waking in the night or too early is more commonly caused by stress or depression. Cortisol is the hormone which wakes us in the morning under normal circumstances, and if its secretion peaks too early, we will wake up in the night or early morning instead. As is the case with so many other issues, reducing the stress response should help to improve sleep.

How hypnotherapy can help

The first thing to do is try to track down the cause, which we may be able to do in the first session, and that will show us the way forward. Hypnotherapy can be very relaxing in itself, and you might find that you sleep better simply as a result of a session, even if that isn’t mainly what you came for.

Hypnotherapy can be very effective in improving sleep disorders and insomnia, especially when they are due to disturbing events from the past. In other cases sleep problems can be linked to anxiety, depression, or physical problems like an imbalance of neurotransmitters, all of which require different approaches.

Sleep problems are often complex to deal with, since there may be other factors due to lifestyle and nutritional habits. One way or another, I may be able to help you with these. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more.
