Self-esteem, self-confidence and shyness

Hypnotherapy usually works very well for increasing confidence and self-esteem. Self-confidence and self-esteem are fundamental to your life. I think of them as being linked but slightly different.

Self-esteem has to do with how much you value yourself; self-confidence to do with how much you believe in yourself  and how sure you are of yourself. Shyness is an area where self-image and self-esteem are obviously also involved, but this has a social component as well; blushing and embarrassment may come along with this.

I have included blushing here, but at some point it will get its own page, since this is an issue I work with a lot. There may be a hereditary factor in terms of the face being more prone to reddening than in most people, and the awareness that your face and or/neck is hot and red in itself creates a self-consciousness, so that you become hyper-aware and focussed on the way you’re coming across and on what may be visible to other people.

In other words blushing can create anxiety about blushing which makes the whole thing worse. If you have any further questions about using hypnotherapy to treat blushing, please contact me and ask, since I can then address the factors which are important in your particular case.

Causes of low self-esteem

Most babies have a healthy self-image and curiosity towards the world, (apart from chemical imbalances at birth, the small percentage of cases where a mother’s body chemistry and emotional state may impact negatively on the developing foetus, and potential birth trauma).  This means that most factors which reduce our self-esteem and self-confidence are learned, often in childhood, sometimes later in life.

This can be due to difficult parents, or bullying at school, for instance, and the effects of that bullying often remain with you. Sometimes it can even be due to bullying at work.

Origins of shyness

Shyness will usually go back to childhood, but I sometimes see clients who have developed it in the workplace or social situations later in life. If blushing is accompanied by shyness, shame or embarrassment, there is a better chance of dealing with it.

How hypnotherapy can work to help increase self-esteem and self-confidence

So far as hypnotherapy goes, my job is to clear all the events which have affected your healthy self-image so that you can become as emotionally strong and effective as you would like to be. In practice, even though there may have been dozens or hundreds of events which may have significantly affected your self-esteem or confidence, we will probably have to deal with somewhere between one or two and half a dozen.

Confidence breeds confidence

The result of doing this is that you stop focussing on yourself and turn your attention outwards much more. Moreover, because you will no longer have the self-consciousness, other people will see you as more confident and relate to you more easily, and that in itself will make you more successful and effective.

Hypnotherapy, done correctly, is one of the most efficient and far-reaching methods of doing this, and works remarkably well and reliably for most people. The sooner you begin the process, the sooner you will reap the rewards.
